This is a delicious and refreshing homemade iced tea.

For those new to stevia, citrus fruits are a good mask to the slightly different flavor of stevia. It can take some people a couple weeks of regular use to get used to it. Since stevia is not actually a sugar, it registers a bit different on the tongue. This is such a great sugar replacement, that it really will be worth the effort to get used to it.

The stevia I'm referring to is the concentrated stevia extract or powder with absolutely no other fillers or ingredients, preferably organic. This is a processed product, and some people get a negative reaction to it, or don't like it. Avoid using the stevia blends that are popular, as they contain a lot of fillers, additives, flavorings and sugar, that can cause digestive upset.

You can also use organic dried and ground stevia leaf, or make a sweet water with it by brewing it like coffee and then reducing the liquid by boiling it.

Use all organic ingredients, ensure any dried spices (cinnamon) are labeled certified gluten free, and packaged ingredients are labeled gluten free, such as the stevia and the tea bags.

Ingredients:
2 cups Boiling water
3 to 4 Black tea bags, or any hot tea of your choice
6 Cinnamon sticks
2 Oranges, juice of
1 cup Ice, for serving
Optional Sweetener - choose 1:
  • Stevia: Use the pure extract type, with no fillers. You only need a tiny bit. You really just need a few grains of the powder, since it's so sweet.
  • Honey: You want raw, unfiltered. Use about 1/2 tablespoon, or adjust to taste.
Directions:
  • Add the stevia or honey (if using) to the hot water. Add tea bags and cinnamon sticks.
  • Allow to steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Once cooled, add fresh orange juice. Divide between glasses and top with cool water to taste, and serve with ice.
